Governor El-Rufai orders arrest of journalist


Emerging reports say that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna state, has ordered the arrest of Midat Joseph, a Leadership newspapers correspondent based in Kaduna. Midat was said to have been arrested by security operatives at his house in the early hours of Thursday, April 20. While reports of the reason for his arrest are still sketchy, sources said the journalist was picked up for publishing a report which was critical of the Kaduna state government. Governor El-Rufai was alleged to have order the arrest of the journalist Midat Joseph NAIJ.com gathered that Midat's detention brings to six, the number of journalists arrested Governor El-Rufai since he assumed office on May 29, 2015. Meanwhile, El-Rufai recently came under fire from a senator in his state, Shehu Sani, who berated the Kaduna state governor over the derogatory remarks he made concerning an APC national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The remarks were made in the memo the governor sent to President Muhammadu Buhari which was leaked to the media recently.
