Episode 20
A STORY WRITTEN BY BRIGHT DANIEL
At the resident of Geto, his
grandmother sat on a wooden chair facing the window side. The room was dark and
scary. One could see a hurricane lamp hung on the wall illuminating only the
area. Suddenly, the front door cracked open then Cassandra and Geto entered.
Geto became surprise seeing his grandmother in a different form. She was
covered with a black garment. One could see only her gray hair as she faced the
window. Even Cassandra was surprise too. “Is that your grandmother?” she
whispered.
“Yes, she is” Geto replied. “Granny!” he called but there was no response. “Grandma!” he called again moving forward to meet her but Cassandra stopped him.
“Leave us”
“What?!”
“I said leave us alone”
“You mean…”
“Get out!” Cassandra interrupted instantaneously before Geto left the room as an after thought. The whole thing seemed to Cassandra like what she saw spiritually earlier that day, so she slowly began to move forward. “Grandma?” she called but there was no response. Just then, the chair began to shake like a pendulum bob. “Grandma?” Cassandra drew closer then the chair gradually turned around. She could see her face very well.
“Cassandra my daughter” Granny began standing up. “Why do you want to kill yourself when i gave you all that you need”
“What are you talking about and what did you give me?”
“The book, Cassandra”
“The book?”
“Yes”
“My mother left the book before she died!”
“Yes, i left the book for you”
“But you are not my mother”
“You may not see me but i am your mother” Granny returned back to her seat. There was a big expression of confusion and amazement on Cassandra’s face. She slid her hair backward staring at Granny then realised that the woman was possessed by the spirit of her late mother. “Mother?” she called.
“Yes my child” Granny answered smiling. “You see, this is one of the reasons i cherish you so much; you are smart and intelligent”
“Mother, i just watched an innocent child die for the sin she never committed” Cassandra’s voice began to break. “Now Amaya is gone too for the same curse!”
“It is all your fault!” Granny stood up angrily.
“My fault? How? How is it my fault?!”
“Cassandra, you were born for this purpose! You were born to protect the city of Kali! To protect this generation! But unfortunately you are doing nothing?!”
Tears ran down from Cassandra’s eyes. “Mother i can’t believe you are the one saying this!”
“Wake up Cassandra! Do you think you met your friends by accident?! Lawson, Daniel, Kelly, Hector, Nelikita and Grace. These people were designed to help and protect you on this mission but you are not helping things!”
“What am i suppose to do?!”
Granny turned her back on Cassandra but turned again looking at her. “I can’t believe you are the one asking this question when you have the book!”
“I have tried so hard reading the book but all to no avail. Even my vision powers are gone!”
“That’s because you are so hard on yourself my child” Granny’s voice came down. “You only need to calm down and accept what you were born to do” she added.
“What about the blood?” Cassandra’s voice also came down. “Whose blood will be used to break the curse?”
Granny turned her back on her again and said, “The blood of the one who laid the curse”
“What?!” Cassandra shouted and slid her hair backward again in surprise. “How? How can the blood of people who died many years ago be recovered?”
Granny faced her looking straight into her eyes. “That’s why you need the book. You are going to embark on a journey tonight and invoke their spirit”
“I thought only the blood of another person can be used as sacrifice to break any curse”
“Not in this case, Cassandra”
“Why?”
“The two lovers killed many years ago laid the curse with their blood so that no other blood apart from theirs can be used to break the curse. Their intention was for the curse to linger in the city from generation to generation. That’s why their blood is the one needed to break the curse permanently” Cassandra was amazed listening to his mother through Granny without knowing what else to say. “Your time is ticking” Granny concluded and went back to her seat before Cassandra went out.

Outside the house was Geto who went back into the room after Cassandra left. He met her grandmother standing up from the wooden chair. “Granny, are you okay?” he asked.
“Yes, I’m fine, Geto” she replied.
“Well, did Cassandra tell you how to break the curse?”
“Who is Cassandra?”
“The one that just left the room now”
“I have not seen anybody”
Geto became confused with his hands on his waist. So he ran out to meet Cassandra but she was already gone.

Inside Cassandra’s car, as she drove with a high speed going back home, she brought out her phone to call Hector.

Hector laid on the bed without a shirt on when his phone rang. His eyes and mind were not completely free from the alcohol he took few hours ago. So he stretched his hand and picked the call..

“Yes, she is” Geto replied. “Granny!” he called but there was no response. “Grandma!” he called again moving forward to meet her but Cassandra stopped him.

“What?!”
